Royal Purple Guinea Keets are one of the most beautiful varieties of all the Guinea breeds. Royal Purple Guinea keet hatchlings are brown with small irregular black striping on the back and the top of the head. The face, front of the neck, belly, and wings are white. Mature Royal Purple Guinea keets have dark black plumage with a lovely purplish sheen. They may have some barring or dots in the flank area. Purple Guinea Keets are often confused with Pearl Gray Guinea until their first molt. Their skin is lighter than the skin of Pearl Guinea keets and they are known for their tender, lean meat. There are many benefits to keeping guinea keets. Their screeching call makes them good “watchdogs” and they keep snakes away and consume grasshoppers, ticks (including those which carry Lyme Disease), and other insects. They are calm and gentle and are known for their unique ornamental value. After the keets have grown past two weeks old, they are one of the hardiest domestic fowl.
