Sapphire Blue Plymouth Rock

$1.45$4.75

Sapphire Blue Plymouth Rock Chickens are the result of a Heritage/Hybrid cross that will amaze you with it’s blueish gray and lavender colored plumage.  This Sex-link breed is a high production Brown egg layer and great forager. They do extremely well in hot and cold climates.  Sapphire Blue chicks are auto-sexing meaning they can be color sexed when they hatch.  Males are blue with a white dot on their head and females are blue with no dot on their head.  Unlike most other blue gene chickens, the Sapphire Blue Parent Stock produces 100% blueish gray offspring with flecks of black.  Some hens may have a fairly dark neck whereas some may have gold or grey neck coloring.  Sapphire Blue Plymouth Rocks do not breed true to color since they are an auto-sexing breed similar to other sex link breeds.
Hens can be expected to produce about 290+ Large to X-Large Brown eggs per year and these birds typically begin to lay at 18-20 weeks old.  We recommend feeding an 18%-24% chick feed until they start laying. When you receive your first egg, we recommend you switch them to a high protein layer feed.  In general, these are sweet birds and have a quiet temperament. Like any chicken, the way you care for them will determine their temperament.  These birds do well in confinement or Free Ranging.
